SMS Holdings acquires Brantley Security Services

Nashville-based SMS Holdings on Tuesday announced that it has acquired Brantley Services of Louisville, Ky., a provider of event management, security and cleaning services for office buildings, retailers, sporting events and other venues.

Terms of the transaction were not released, but companies operated by Brantley Services have combined annual revenue of more than $35 million and more than 1,700 employees, SMS said.

The Brantley companies include Brantley Security, Block by Block, and Brantley Usher, which does work for the Kentucky Derby.

Block by Block provides cleaning and safety services to business improvement districts in more than 30 cities across the nation, including Nashville, SMS spokesman Frederick Strobel said.

Here, Block by Block “trains and places its ambassadors to provide safety, cleaning, garage maintenance and shuttle services for the Nashville Downtown Partnership,” he said.

Brantley also handles security services for Ingram Industries and Dollar General, among other clients in the Nashville area, SMS said.

Founded in 1988, SMS Holdings comprises several companies that provide facility and security management services. They include Valor Security Services, Service Management Systems, PrimeFlight Aviation Services, and FirstLine Transportation Security, which has contracts to conduct airline passenger pre-board and luggage screening services for the federal Transportation Security Administration.

“I am thrilled to announce the completion of this acquisition,” SMS Chairman Keith Wolken said. “We’ve had incredible growth in our security business through Valor; the addition of the Brantley portfolio only strengthens that position while allowing us to expand into new service areas.”

SMS has more than $300 million in annual revenues, employs more than 14,000 people and operates in more than 400 facilities in 43 states and the District of Columbia.
